Stars Girl Scout Day A Big Success
Saturday, March 24th was the Dallas Stars Girl Scout Day.  And while the Stars have hosted Girl Scout Day for several years now, this year was a little different.  The Stars and both Girl Scout Councils in the area began working on the day back in August, as 2012 marks the 100-year anniversary of Girl Scouts.  Together the organizations developed a fun-filled day at the Stars game, with various activities and special recognition for Girl Scouts throughout the day. 

Barbara Shelton, Chief Development and Communication Officer Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains attended the event and said, “The game was incredible! We thoroughly enjoyed the unique way they recognized Girl Scouts. The Dallas Stars creates a unique family of customers and fans—our participation was fun filled, staff were incredibly hospitable and friendly.”

Most notably, the first ever Dallas Stars Girl Scout Flash Mob occurred just prior to the game on the AT&T Plaza!  1,600 Girl Scouts and their families participated in the day, making this the largest Girl Scout Day in Dallas Stars history! Girls Just Want to Have Fun blared through the speakers on The AT&T Plaza and just over 700 people learned the dance and showed their moves in front of the rush of Stars fans coming into the arena (and yes, you’ll see some moms and dads dancing along with the girls).

“Thank you to the Dallas Stars for a wonderful Saturday cheering the Stars to victory. Our girls had a terrific time “ says Becky Burton, CEO of Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains.

The Dallas Stars Ice Girls choreographed the energetic dance, made it available on YouTube for the Girl Scouts to learn and even held a secret practice for Girl Scouts the week before the event to ensure everybody had the routine perfected. “It’s so much fun to have two of the organizations that have impacted my life working together, the Dallas Stars and the Girl Scouts. Both organizations focus on positive family fun. It was great to see all of the Girl Scouts from across Dallas come together and be apart of the Stars flash mob.” states Christina Swanson, Dallas Stars Ice Girl.

John Higgins, Director of Group & Suite Sales for the Dallas Stars added, “We were thrilled with the opportunity to work with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas and Texas-Oklahoma Plains this year on such a fun initiative.  It has been a great partnership for several years, and we are proud of the great memories and experiences we’ve been able to provide to these Girl Scouts and their families.”  It should also be noted that John was challenged by his staff to participate in the Flash Mob, and he learned the routine and danced with everybody during the Flash Mob on the AT&T Plaza.
