Word Championships Recap: May 7

Jamie Benn recorded three points (2 goals, 1 assist) and a +4 rating in 14:48 minutes of ice time to help lead Canada to a 7-2 victory over France. Benn is tied with Stars teammate Loui Eriksson (along with Ales Hemsky and Jack Johnson) for the most goals in the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. As of Monday night, Benn also ranks first in the tournament in plus/minus rating (+5).

GAME RECAP: Canada 7, France 2

Alex Goligoski posted the second-highest ice time for the United States (20:42) as Slovakia won 4-2 against the previously unbeaten Team USA. Richard Bachman served as backup goaltender to Detroit’s Jimmy Howard.

Philip Larsen recorded a game-high 27:27 minutes of ice time and one shot in Denmark’s 6-4 loss to Sweden.

Loui Eriksson scored two goals and one assist with a +2 rating in Sweden’s 6-4 win over Denmark. Eriksson is the leading scorer (3 goals, 3 assists) in the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

Kari Lehtonen was idle, as Finland didn’t play today. They return to action tomorrow against Switzerland.
