Stars release 2012-13 Regular Season Schedule

Frisco, TX -- The Dallas Stars will open the 2012-13 National Hockey League regular season, their 20th year in Texas and 46th in franchise history, on the road against the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Glendale Arena, followed by a matchup with the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Honda Center. The Stars will then play their home opener against the Coyotes on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at American Airlines Center.

The Dallas Stars are celebrating 20 years in Dallas during the 2012-13 season with special events, commemorative merchandise, all honoring our past and present players. The club will also wear a commemorative 20-year patch on its jerseys. The design of this patch will be released at a later date.

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE STARS’ 82-GAME SCHEDULE

The Stars are scheduled to play 82 games during the 2012-13 campaign, with 41 contests at home and 41 on the road. The NHL schedule remains heavily-structured around conference play, especially against the team’s respective division.

Dallas plays in the NHL’s Pacific Division of the Western Conference, and will play 24 divisional games against rivals Anaheim, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Jose (six times each -- three at home, three away).

The Stars will faceoff a total of 40 times against non-division Western Conference foes in the Central Division (Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Nashville and St. Louis) and the Northwest Division (Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton, Minnesota and Vancouver), with four games against each opponent (twice at home, twice away).

Dallas will play a total of 18 games against Eastern Conference opponents, skating against all 15 Eastern teams once and facing off against three Eastern clubs (NY Rangers, Tampa Bay and Washington) both home and away.

The nine Eastern Conference teams that the Stars will host at American Airlines Center are: Buffalo, Carolina, Montreal, New Jersey, NY Rangers, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Washington and Winnipeg.

The home schedule features 20 weekend contests (5 Friday, 12 Saturday, 3 Sunday). Dallas will host five weekend matinees:

• Sunday, Nov. 25 vs. Los Angeles (2 p.m.)

• Saturday, Dec. 1 vs. Pittsburgh (1 p.m.)

• Saturday, Jan. 12 vs. Montreal Canadiens (2 p.m.)

• Sunday, Feb. 17 vs. Calgary Flames (5 p.m.)

• Sunday, March 3 vs. New Jersey Devils (2 p.m.)

NEW START TIMES FOR WEEKNIGHT GAMES

Most weeknight games at American Airlines Center will now commence at 7 p.m. instead of the 7:30 starts that have been the case in recent years. Many fans had requested earlier starts during the week, allowing more families to attend games and get home at earlier times. The Stars have acknowledged and accommodated these requests, and while there will be an occasional later start for television purposes, all Dallas Stars night games (weeknight and weekend) will be 7 p.m. starts.

The Stars’ longest home stand this season is five games, which will happen two separate times, the first being from Dec. 27-Jan. 8 (Columbus, Minnesota, Nashville, NY Rangers and Phoenix) with the second occurring from March 23-April 1 (Buffalo, Los Angeles, Detroit, Tampa Bay and Anaheim).
