Dallas Stars Development Camp to Commence Thursday, July 5
All nine of Dallas' entry draft selections are scheduled to participate
Frisco, TX – The Dallas Stars will hold the club’s annual Development Camp for over 40 top prospects, beginning Thursday, July 5 at Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco. The daily schedule includes both on-and off-ice workouts, with all on-ice practice sessions free and open to the public. The camp will conclude with a skills event and scrimmage on Thursday, July 12 at 10 a.m., also at the club’s Frisco facility.
All nine of Dallas’ 2012 NHL Entry Draft selections are scheduled to participate, as well as the last four first-round selections for the Stars. These selections include: center Radek Faksa (13th overall in 2012); defenseman Jamie Oleksiak (14th overall in 2011); goaltender Jack Campbell (11th overall in 2010) and right wing Scott Glennie (8th overall in 2009).
Four Texas-born players are also scheduled to participate, including Allen’s Dan Barnes, Garland’s Hunter Leisner, Arlington’s Cole Martin and Dallas’ Austin Smith.
Aside from the on-ice sessions, the Dallas Stars will give nearly 100 children from the Boys and Girls Club of Collin County a chance to learn the game of street hockey from Development Camp players and coaches on Monday, July 9th, from 8:30 a.m. – Noon, at Michael Johnson Performance Center at Craig Ranch.
Camp will conclude on Thursday, July 12 with a skills competition and scrimmage, followed by an autograph session. The skills competition is slated to commence at 10 a.m.
Development Camp started in the late 1990’s by the Dallas Stars as a way to acclimate the top prospects to the organization. Over the years, the camp has evolved from strictly on-ice instruction, and now serves as a week-long orientation where the club counsels its prospects in the areas of wellness, nutrition, media training and community outreach. Prospects also learn how to carry themselves as professionals on- and off the ice.
Please note that all on-ice sessions are subject to change. Attending media should contact a member of the Stars’ communications staff if they plan to attend the sessions
