Stars Boast Highly Ranked Prospects

Seven Dallas Stars prospects made the McKeen’s Hockey list of the Top 150 NHL Prospects for 2012-13. McKeen’s

First round pick Radek Faksa at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft

released the list in its recently published annual yearbook. The Stars were tied for third for most players on the list at seven. Minnesota was tops with eleven players making the prospect rankings, which were broken up into the top 120 skaters and top 30 goaltenders.

Stars prospect Jack Campbell ranked third among goaltenders. Campbell, the team’s first round pick (11th overall in 2010), will be in his first full season of professional hockey and has been assigned to the Texas Stars of the AHL, where he played 12 games late last season.

The highest ranked Stars prospect on the list of skaters was center Radek Faksa, who came in at the 41st spot. Faksa,

the Stars’ first round pick (13th overall) in 2012, will play for the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League this season.

Defenseman Jamie Oleksiak was ranked 64th among skaters by McKeen’s. Oleksiak, a first round pick (14th overall) in 2011, will begin his pro career this season after playing junior hockey in the OHL last season. He has been assigned to the Texas Stars.

Cody Eakin skating in Washington during the 2011-12 season

Center Cody Eakin, acquired from Washington in the Mike Ribeiro deal, was ranked 70th among skaters. Eakin, who split time between the Capitals and the Hershey Bears of the AHL last season, has been assigned to the Texas Stars.

Forward Reilly Smith was ranked 101st among skaters. Smith, a third round pick (69th overall) in 2009, is coming off a three-year career at Miami University in Ohio. He played three games with Dallas late last season, and has been assigned to the Texas Stars as he embarks on his first full professional season.

Coming in at number 104 on the list on skaters was forward Alex Chiasson, a 2nd round pick (38th overall) in 2009. Chiasson played the past three seasons at Boston University. Chiasson, who will be in his first full pro season, has been assigned to the Texas Stars, with whom he played nine games late last season.

The final Stars prospect to make the list was forward Matt Fraser, who was ranked 120th among skaters. Fraser, who signed with the Stars as a free agent in 2010, led the Texas Stars and ranked second in the AHL with 37 goals in 73 games last season. Fraser has been assigned to Texas.
