GM Joe Nieuwendyk Has Close Connections with Lacrosse
Nieuwendyk named honorary chair for the Bridge Lacrosse Dallas “Going for the Goal” dinner and auction
Hockey may have taken the front seat in the winter in Canada, but during the summer months, it was all lacrosse for Dallas Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk.
An accomplished Box Lacrosse player, it was only fitting he was named honorary chair for the Bridge Lacrosse Dallas “Going for the Goal” dinner and auction on Thursday night.
“I know from playing sports all my life, that you learn so much about yourself, different people, teammates and you do a lot of growing up,” Nieuwendyk said.
Lacrosse and hockey share many similarities, not just in the general functions of the game, but in the attitude and tenacity required to play as well. Above all, a strong sense of fearlessness and leadership are what weave the sports together and translate to valuable life lessons for children who need them.
“A pair of cleats, a helmet, and a stick is not too much to ask and when these people can donate and help this program put sticks in kids’ hands, it’s a great way to influence their lives and to change their lives.” Nieuwendyk said.
Bridge Lacrosse Dallas is an organization dedicated to teaching core values and life skills to diverse populations through the sport. By the end of the night filled with laughter and generosity, over $10 thousand was raised, bringing Nieuwendyk, the Dallas Stars Foundation, and Bridge Lacrosse Dallas closer to accomplishing their goal.
