Wednesday, Milwaukee at Texas: Stars 3, Admirals 1
The Stars snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Milwaukee at Cedar Park Center on Wednesday. Jack Campbell stopped 23 shots and defenseman Jamie Oleksiak scored his first professional goal for the Stars.
Texas, which had been outscored 14-4 during its three-game losing streak, got off to a strong start in this game, outshooting Milwaukee 12-5 in the first period and getting a power play goal from Travis Morin to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
“You have to raise your level to compete in this league. I don’t think we competed hard enough last weekend and you have to compete that hard to just get a chance,” said Texas coach Willie Desjardins. “We competed and we got a power play goal, which helped, and that makes a difference.”
Oleksiak extended the lead to 2-0 early in the third period, taking a drop pass from Cody Eakin off the rush and scoring on a wrist shot.
“I almost broke my stick calling for the puck from Eakin,” Oleksiak said. “The shot went five-hole and just squeaked through. I was pretty excited.”
Mark Van Guilder spoiled Campbell’s shutout bid, tipping in a point shot with 5:26 remaining in the third period to make it a 2-1 game. But Antoine Roussel scored a late empty net goal to seal the win for Texas.
