Brett Ritchie Named CHL Player of the Week

Dallas Stars prospect Brett Ritchie, who has named the Ontario Hockey League Player of the Week on Monday, was named the Canadian Hockey League Player of the Week on Wednesday. The CHL encompasses the three major junior hockey leagues based in Canada – OHL, WHL and QMJHL.

Release on Ritchie from the CHL:

The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Brett Ritchie of the Niagara IceDogs is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 4 after recording 13 points in three games including an impressive 10 goals with three assists and a plus-minus rating of plus-7.

Ritchie became the first player in IceDogs’ franchise history to record back-to-back hat-tricks and pushed the record even further by tallying four then five goals in those games. His four-goal game was part of a career-high six-point night on Saturday where he was named first star of a 9-4 win over the Guelph Storm, followed one day later by his five-goal game as first star of a 6-4 win over the Peterborough Petes. Both the six-points and five-goals matched franchise single game records. Ritchie began the week with a goal and an assist as part of a 2-0 win over the Kitchener Rangers on Thursday.

Ritchie, a 19-year-old from Orangeville, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season and was selected in the second round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Dallas Stars. Third in OHL scoring with 29 points in 19 games, Ritchie will compete in the 2012 SUBWAY Super Series with Team OHL on Thursday November 8 in Guelph.

Also considered for the award this week was Josh Currie of the PEI Rocket who scored one goal and six assists for seven points in three games, and Justin Feser of the Tri-City Americans who scored five goals and three assists for eight points in three games.
