Wild top Stars, 7-4

Just when it looked like the Dallas Stars were in a position to take control of Monday night’s game against Minnesota, the Wild’s Kyle Brodziak scored a goal to turn the game around. Brodziak’s shorthanded goal with the Stars on a four-minute power play snapped a 4-4 tie and held up as the game-winner as the Wild defeated the Stars, 7-4, at American Airlines Center.

“Tough to give up that one,” said Stars center Jamie Benn. “We wanted to build momentum. We definitely wanted to get a goal there, but if not get some momentum from it for the last three minutes, and then we kind of got shot in the butt there with that shorthanded goal.”

After a neutral zone turnover, the Wild entered the Dallas zone, Cal Clutterbuck put a shot on net that Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen couldn’t handle and Brodziak put home the rebound.

“We had an opportunity to win, seven minutes left,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “Four-minute PP and you think you’re in the driver’s seat. We made a pass, a D stepped up on our guy, turned it over. He jumped and capitalized. It’s a lot of the story of our game tonight.”

Despite being on their heels at times over the first two periods, the Stars had 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 leads in the game.
