Wednesday update: Stars upbeat, ready to move forward after trades

The new look Dallas Stars are back in action tonight, taking on the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center in the second game of their three-game mini-series here in the final month of the regular season.

The Stars’ roster looks a lot different than when the two teams met in Dallas on Monday. Jaromir Jagr was traded to Boston on Tuesday. Derek Roy was shipped to Vancouver.

Now in the mix are forwards Matt Fraser and Alex Chiasson, called up from the Texas Stars, and forward Lane MacDermid, acquired from Boston in the Jagr deal.

“We lost two well-liked players, but we’ve got a lot of young guys in here and the mood of the team is upbeat,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “We’re ready to keep moving forward. It’s been a real upbeat morning.”

Despite the loss of two top six forwards, Gulutzan said the Stars aren’t waving the white flag on the season.

“Absolutely not. Absolutely not,” Gulutzan said. “We see ourselves in a different light, a different style of game that will help us move forward here and get into this playoff race. There is some real optimism in that locker room.”

Stars forward Eric Nystrom wasn’t waving the white flag either.
