Meet The SEALs Night With The Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars teamed up with WFAA and Carry the Load, a non-profit organization that supports veterans and active duty service members, law enforcement officers, firefighters and their families, to honor SEAL members for Meet The Seals Night on Tuesday, April 9, against the Los Angeles Kings at American Airlines Center. The Dallas Stars dominated the defending Stanley Cup Champions, 5-1, giving them their third win in four meetings against their divisional foes.

During the National Anthem, Clint Bruce was honored as the Hometown Hero. Bruce, a Co-Founder of Carry The Load, was raised in Dallas and entered the elite Navy SEAL in 1997. He had the opportunity to deploy in three consecutive SEAL Platoons, holding various positions of command and leadership.

"We are honored to partner with the Dallas Stars and WFAA to raise awareness and support for Carry The Load, which exists to restore meaning to Memorial Day by honoring the sacrifices made by members of the military, law enforcement officers, firefighters and their families, especially those who have died or were wounded while carrying the load for their fellow Americans,” said Bruce.

Stephen Holley Jr. and Jacob Schick were also recognized during the game as members of Carry the Load. Holley Jr., the other Co-Founder of Carry The Load, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2000. Currently an Office Tenant Rep at Jones Lang LaSalle in Dallas, Holley Jr. completed four deployments to Iraq and Southeast Asia. Schick, a third generation Marine, is a 6-year medically retired veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and recipient of the Purple Heart. He serves as ambassador for Carry The Load.

For Party on the Plaza, fans were able to meet the war veterans, who helped provide information for their cause, and take pictures with different military vehicles. Fans were also able to sign up for the Carry the Load Memorial March, which takes place on May 26-27. The march raises money to benefit Assist The Officer, Heroes On The Water, Friends of Dallas Fire-Rescue, Tip Of The Spear Foundation and Sons of the Flag Burn Foundation.

“WFAA was pleased to work with the Dallas Stars on this event," said Dave Muscari, WFAA vice president/product development. "Carry the Load is an important community program that recognizes the contributions of military, law enforcement, fire and rescue personnel and their families. We are grateful to the Stars for their assistance in exposing even more people to this effort."

Prior to the game, former Stars goaltender Eddie “The Eagle” Belfour presented the Carry the Load Co-Founders with their own Dallas Stars jerseys during Good Morning America. Belfour, who played for the Stars from 1997-2002 and was a member of the 1999 Stanley Cup team, was named to the 20th Anniversary All-Time team and performed the ceremonial puck drop.
