Dallas Stars team up with Boy and Girl Scouts of America

The Dallas Stars teamed up with the Boy and Girl Scouts of America on Saturday, April 13 as the Stars faced off against their divisional foes, the San Jose Sharks. Rookie Alex Chiasson scored his sixth goal in six games and helped lead the Dallas Stars past the San Jose Sharks, 2-1.

After the game, the Dallas Stars hosted the Girl Scouts at American Airlines Center for the first Dallas Stars Girl Scout Sleepover. The event began pregame with the DIVA’s (Girl Scout top cookie sellers) receiving VIP treatment with the Ice Girls. They toured the Ice Girls locker room, took photos with the Ice Girls, received goodie bags and were able to watch the Ice Girls warm up. During post game, the Ice Girls taught the Juniors (Girl Scouts grades 4-5) a short dance and how to strengthen their dance muscles.

After the game, NHL Alumni Gerald Diduck, whose daughter is in Venture Crew (a co-ed scout division), spoke to the older Girl Scouts in the divisions of Ambassadors, Seniors and Cadettes to help cover topics for the Girl Scouts to earn different components towards their Legacy Athlete Badge. The topics included how to motivate a team, how to set and maintain physical training goals and a personal story from his days in the NHL. The girls were then taken out onto the ice and given the chance to shoot pucks at the net and have their photos taken on the player’s bench. After all the fun, over 500 girls slept throughout the Platinum Level at American Airlines Center.

“Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas is proud to partner with the Dallas Stars to host this exciting Girl Scout Night at the American Airlines Center. Over 500 girls spent the evening with their families and friends cheering on the Stars, then stayed up late earning Healthy Living and fitness related Girl Scout badges," said Girl Scout Leadership Experience Specialist Ashley Barr. "The Stars staff have been amazing in planning this exciting night for the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas. Girls learned the rules of the game, took shots on goal, received fitness, nutrition and dance tips from the Ice Girls and heard motivational stories from NHL alumni. This was an exciting event that empowered girls to take control of their own health and understand what it takes to truly be an athlete.”

United States Congressman Pete Sessions, whose sons are Eagle Scouts, presented a framed customized Dallas Stars Jersey in honor of the Boy Scout Group Circle 10 celebrating 100 years to Circle 10’s Deputy Scout Executive David Williams. Circle Ten was written on the back of the jersey to go along with a 100 year Circle 10 patch embroidered on the front. Sessions is a second-generation Eagle Scout himself and has been a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. As a boy, Sessions was a Scout Master for 13 Eagle Scouts and is now actively involved with Troop 890 of Dallas.

“The formal acknowledgment that the Dallas Stars bestowed upon the Circle 10 Council of the Boy Scouts of America at the American Airlines Center this weekend was a distinct honor,” said Sessions. “The Scouts present will forever remember the night of celebration that they were able to share with their family, friends and the Dallas community.”

During the second intermission, scouts Andy Remack from DEN 4, Pack 2007, Jack Burrows and Will Vinson from Pack 325 were chosen to ride the FanZam.
