Dallas Stars Assign Jordie Benn, Alex Chiasson, and Reilly Smith to Texas Stars

The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has assigned defenseman Jordie Benn, forward Alex Chiasson and forward Reilly Smith to the Texas Stars, Dallas' development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Benn, 25, appeared in 26 games for Dallas this season, posting six points (1G-5A) with 10 penalty minutes. Earlier this season, Benn recorded his first career NHL goal on March 23 against the Colorado Avalanche. The 6-foot-1 native of Victoria, B.C., has skated in 43 games during the 2012-13 campaign for Texas, notching 21 points (7G-14A) with a plus-five rating. Benn went undrafted and was signed by Dallas on July 25, 2012.

Chiasson, 22, skated in seven NHL games this season and posted seven points (6G-1A). He recorded six goals in his first six career NHL games, becoming the first player since Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin to accomplish that feat.

Earlier this season with the Texas Stars, he appeared in 57 games and tallied 35 points (13G-22A). Chiasson suffered an upper body injury on April 15 against the Chicago Blackhawks and missed the remainder of Dallas' regular season games. The Montreal native was Dallas' second-round selection (38th overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft.

Smith, 22, played in 37 contests for Dallas during the 2012-13 season and scored nine points (3G-6A). The Toronto native scored his first career NHL goal on Feb. 15 against Vancouver and returns to Texas tied as the club's fourth leading scorer in the regular season with 35 points (14G-21A). Smith was Dallas' third-round selection (69th overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft.

The Texas Stars, who are the top overall seed in the AHL's Western Conference, return to Cedar Park tied 1-1 against the Milwaukee Admirals in the first round of the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs. Texas will take the ice in Game Three of the best-of-five series on Wednesday night against Milwaukee at 7:30 p.m. CT.
