Texas Stars open round two of playoffs tonight

The Texas Stars get back to play in the AHL’s Calder Cup Playoffs tonight, taking on the Oklahoma City Barons in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals at Cedar Park Center.

The Stars won their first round series against Milwaukee, 3-1. The Barons defeated Charlotte, 3-2.

Texas and Oklahoma City met 12 times during the regular season with the Barons winning eight of the games. The Barons won five of six against Texas during the NHL lockout when they had Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Justin Schultz in their lineup. After the lockout the two teams split the final six meetings.

Although Nugent-Hopkins, Hall, Eberle and Schultz aren’t playing for them in the playoffs, the Barons are still a potent offensive team. They were the top scoring team in the first round of the playoffs, averaging 4.60 goals per game in their series against Charlotte.
