World Championship notes: Eriksson scores on power play, tallies in shootout as Sweden knocks out Canada

Loui Eriksson scored in regulation and then scored in the shootout as Sweden defeated Canada, 3-2 in the quarterfinals at the World Championship on Thursday.

Eriksson scored on the power play in the third period to give Sweden a 2-1 lead when a Nicklas Danielsson shot from the point deflected off his skate and into the net.

After Canada’s Claude Giroux scored to tie the game a short time later, the contest stayed tied through the rest of regulation and a ten minute overtime.

Eriksson, who shot first for Sweden in the shootout, slipped the puck between Team Canada goalie Mike Smith’s legs with a forehand shot.
