Dallas Stars saddened by passing of prospect Scott Winkler

The Dallas Stars learned on Thursday afternoon that Scott Winkler, a player in the team's development system, passed away at the age of 23. The details of his passing are not available to the team at this time.

"The Dallas Stars are heartbroken to hear about Scott's passing," said Stars General Manager Jim Nill. "Scott was a wonderful young man with great character and a bright future; we extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends."

The native of Asker, Norway, was born on Feb. 22, 1990 and was Dallas' third-round selection (89th overall) in the 2008 NHL Draft.
