Dallas Stars select nine players in the 2013 NHL Draft
Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill selected nine players in the 2013 NHL Draft held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Valeri Nichushkin - Right Wing (First Round, 10th Overall)
During the 2012-13 season, Nichushkin appeared in 18 games with Chelyabinsk (KHL) recording six points (4G-2A) and a +6 plus/minus rating. He also appeared in 25 playoff games for the club and notched nine points (6G-3A), reaching the KHL finals where they fell to Dynamo Moscow. The 6-foot-3, 196-pound native of Chelyabinsk, Russia, represented his home country at the 2013 World Junior Championship and finished with two points (1A-1G) in six games. He scored the game-winning goal in the bronze medal game against Canada.
Nichushkin recorded seven points (4G-3A) in six games at the 2013 Under-18 World Championship in Sochi, Russia. He was a member of the gold medal-winning Russian team at the 2012 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge, notching nine points (5G-4A) to finish second on the team and fifth overall in tournament scoring.
Jason Dickinson - Center (First Round, 29th Overall)
Dickinson appeared in 66 games for Guelph (OHL) during the 2012-13 season and recorded 47 points (18G-29A), leading the team with a +19 rating. The 6-foot-1, 179-pound native of Georgetown, Ontario skated in three games for Canada's gold medal-winning team at the 2013 Under-18 World Championships, recording one point before having his tournament cut short due to injury. During the 2011-12 campaign, he posted 35 points (13G-22A) in 63 games with Guelph and was named to the OHL's Second All-Team, closing the season with 31 points in his final 42 games.
Remi Elie - Left Wing (Second Round, 40th Overall)
During the 2012-13 season, Elie appeared in 65 games for London (OHL) recording 17 points (7G-10A) with 34 penalty minutes. During the 2013 OHL Playoffs, he recorded eight points (4G-4A) in 21 games and helped the Knights reach the Memorial Cup. The 6-foot-0, 203-pound native of Cornwall, Ontario, skated with Hawkesbury (CCHL) in 2011-12, skating in 59 games with 46 points (21G-25A).
Philippe Desrosiers - Goaltender (Second Round, 54th Overall)
Desrosiers backstopped Rimouski (QMJHL) in 43 games with a 22-8-5 record in 2012-13, posting a .900 save percentage (SV%) and a 3.07 goals against average (GAA). He appeared in four games during the QMJHL Playoffs with a 2-2 record with an .892 SV% and a 2.26 GAA. The 6-foot-1, 182-pound native of Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, posted a perfect record (5-0) at the 2013 Under-18 World Junior Championship helping lead Team Canada to the gold medal. Desrosiers finished the tournament with a .970 SV% and 0.80 GAA, including a 33-save performance against the United States in the gold medal game.
Nicklas Hansson - Defenseman (Third Round, 68th Overall)
Hansson, 26, played junior hockey last season in Sweden, appearing in 39 games for Rogle (SEL), recording 23 points (3G-20A) with 47 penalty minutes and a +26 rating. The 6-foot, 163-pound defenseman from Helsingborg, Sweden, split time in the 2012-13 campaign between four levels of the Rogle club, tallying a total of 29 points (6G-23A) in 55 games.
Nicholas Paul - Left Wing (Fourth Round, 101st Overall)
Paul appeared in 66 games during the 2012-13 campaign for Brampton (OHL), recording 28 points (12G-16A) with 21 penalty minutes. During the 2013 OHL Playoffs, the 6-foot-2, 202-pound forward from Mississauga, Ontario, notched one assist in five games. Paul tallied seven multi-point games during the 2012-13 regular season, including a hat trick against Mississauga on Dec. 31. In the 2011-12 season, Paul skated in nine games for Mississauga (OJHL) and posted five points (3G-2A).
Cole Ully - Left Wing (Fifth Round, 131st Overall)
Ully finished the 2012-13 season ranked fifth on the Kamloops Blazers (WHL) with 50 points (22G-28A) in 62 regular season games. He finished the season a +27 rating, also good for fifth on the team. During the 2013 WHL Playoffs, Ully notched eight points (1G-7A) with four penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11, 164-pound forward played the last three seasons for the Blazers, compiling 71 points (31G-40A) with a +34 rating in 118 total games. Ully, a native of Calgary, Alberta, has appeared in 21 career WHL playoff games with 10 points (2G-8A) and six penalty minutes.
Matej Paulovic - Left Wing (Fifth Round, 149th Overall)
Paulovic played junior hockey last season in Sweden, skating in 34 games in 2012-13 for Farjestad Jr. The 6-foot-3, 187-pound forward from Slovakia registered 17 points (6G-12A) in 34 games with Farjestad Jr. He split time between three levels of the Farjestad club in 2012-13, notching 24 points (8G-16A) in 42 total contests. He also represented the Slovakian U-18 team, recording four points (1G-3A) in nine games.
Aleksi Makela - Defenseman (Seventh Round, 182nd Overall)
Makela appeared in seven contests with Ilves (SM-liiga), recording two points (1G-1A) in 2012-13. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound blueliner appeared in three levels for the Ilves club, tallying 28 points (9G-19A) in 52 total contests. He spent the majority of the season with the club's U-20 team, picking up 17 points (8G-9A) in 37 games. Makela was ranked 96th amongst European skaters by NHL Central Scouting.
