Dallas Stars Owner Tom Gaglardi announces Dallas Stars Little Rookies Program, Designed by Mike Modano

Dallas Stars Owner and Governor Tom Gaglardi announced today the creation of Dallas Stars Little Rookies, designed by Mike Modano. This youth hockey initiative will consist of four 30-minute, Saturday morning on-ice sessions that provide children the opportunity to learn the basics of hockey, while outfitting the participants with all necessary equipment.

"We are continually committed to growing the sport of hockey in North Texas and across the entire Lone Star State," Gaglardi said. "Dallas Stars Little Rookies, designed by Mike Modano provides the chance for children in the area to learn about hockey, while being fully outfitted in equipment, without any financial burden to the family."

The program was designed with the assistance of hockey icon and Dallas sports legend Mike Modano. The greatest American-born scorer in the history of the National Hockey League, Modano helped create the program, which is scheduled to begin at all area ice rinks on Saturday, Sept. 28.

"Mike's passion and support for youth hockey is one of the biggest reasons for the growth of the sport in Texas," Gaglardi said. "He is a perfect fit to serve as the spokesman for this and will be active in helping direct and grow the program over the next few years."

The program is an initiative of the Dallas Stars Foundation, which focuses its efforts on providing support to the children of the North Texas community. The Dallas Stars Little Rookies, designed by Mike Modano encourages teamwork, physical fitness and education through the sport of hockey as demonstrated by trained instructors at ice facilities across the Metroplex.

Children between the ages of four and eight who have never participated in a skating or hockey program are eligible for the Dallas Stars Little Rookies, designed by Mike Modano. The program will be offered five times a year at all local area ice rinks, allowing parents to choose the rink closest to them, whether it be the Allen Community Rink, Ice at the Parks, ITC, NYTEX, Polar Ice House or one of the Dr Pepper StarCenters in Euless, Farmers Branch, Frisco, Plano and McKinney.

Committed to growing youth hockey across the state of Texas, Little Rookies is a first of its kind partnership that unifies all ice rinks in the Metroplex and helps provide a program for children to experience hockey for the first time at any ice rink in North Texas.

"The Dallas Stars have always been critically important to the growth of youth hockey in our area," Allen Community Center supervisor Timmy Vessakosol said. "Their renewed commitment to growing the game of hockey will prove beneficial to all local ice facilities in the area."
