Rich Peverley to miss three weeks after procedure to correct irregular heartbeat

Stars forward Rich Peverley will miss three weeks after undergoing a procedure to correct an irregular heartbeat. The issue was discovered in a physical on Wednesday and doctors decided to perform the procedure after more tests on Thursday.

“We sent him to a specialist and it ended up he had an A-fib condition (atrial fibrillation), which is where the heart gets out of rhythm,” said Stars GM Jim Nill. “He had a procedure done. He’s going to be out for three weeks and should be available close to the start of the season, might miss one or two games.”

Nill said it was his understanding that procedure involved shocking the heart to get it back in rhythm. Peverley will be able to skate for the next weeks, but no contact.

“Our medical staff did a great job, they recognized this,” NIll said. “That’s why they do the medical procedures, they picked it up on the EKG and he’ll be fine. “
