Stars-Capitals Notes
Stars-Capitals notes from October 5, 2013.

Forward Rich Peverley made his Dallas Stars debut Saturday night, logging 16:49 of ice time and winning 9 of 17 faceoffs.

“I thought he was really good,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “It was nice to see that he was good on faceoffs. I know he’d want a few (chances) back, but from a structure standpoint of using him a little at wing and at center, he was really good.”

Peverley, who missed the season opener because of treatment for an irregular heartbeat, played on a line with Antoine Roussel and Ryan Garbutt.

“I felt better as the game went along,” said Peverley, who was acquired from the Boston Bruins in July. “There was a little bit of nerves and some timing in the first period, but as the game went on I started to feel a lot better.”

Chiasson keeps racking up the goals

Alex Chiasson’s goal Saturday night gave him eight goals in nine NHL games. According to Elias Sports Bureau, Chiasson is the first player in the NHL to score eight or more goals through his first nine games since Rob Gaudreau scored nine goals in nine games in the 1992-93 season.

The only other active NHL player to have scored eight goals in his first nine NHL games is Teemu Selanne who, like Gaudreau, did it during the 1992-93 season.

Quotable: Kari Lehtonen on how hard Alex Ovechkin shoots the puck

“I don’t know. I can’t see the puck when he shoots. I just hope that it hits me. He’s one of those guys that shoots it really hard. It’s good to be in the Western Conference I guess.”
