Thursday Practice Update
Stars coach Lindy Ruff tinkered with his forward lines a bit for Thursday’s practice, and said the goal was to have some balance.
Rich Peverley was again playing right wing on the top line with center Tyler Seguin and left wing Jamie Benn. Cody Eakin centered Ray Whitney and Alex Chiasson. Shawn Horcoff had Antoine Roussel and Erik Cole on his wings. Vernon Fiddler centered Ryan Garbutt and Valeri Nichushkin.
“I like the balance on the lines. We have a little bit of size and good speed on all the lines,” Ruff said. “You need secondary scoring, and the way it is spread out we hope to get that.”
Peverley took some of the faceoffs on the top line during Thursday’s practice and that means he could end up playing center at times with Seguin shifting to the right wing.
“On some of those setups he’d just be the centerman,” said Ruff. “It’s a natural position for him and Tyler is used to playing right. If they decide to switch on that, then he’ll be the guy that is playing down low for a while.”
Rome 7-10 days away
Stars defenseman Aaron Rome, who is recovering from a procedure on his hip, wasn’t wearing the red no contact jersey for the first time since he started practicing with the team a little more than a week ago.
Rome, who will travel with the team on the upcoming road trip, isn’t expected to play in any of the games, but the Stars do have a timeframe for his return to the lineup.
“Rome will travel and practice,” Ruff said. “He’s getting closer. He’s probably within a week to ten days of starting to play games.”
Rome had the procedure on his hip just prior to training camp.
