Nichushkin Out, MacDermid in for Tonight’s Game
The Stars are expected to make one lineup change for tonight’s game against the Colorado Avalanche in Denver.
The Stars are giving the 18-year-old Nichushkin a night off to watch. He’s played a lot over the past month, including the NHL Prospect Tournament, Stars training camp scrimmages, six preseason games and the first four games of the NHL regular season.
“We just felt that he's played a lot of hockey and it would be good to let him take a break and watch a game,” Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. “I think that can be a good way for him to maybe see the game differently and learn a few things.”
Nichushkin, the Stars’ first round pick (10th overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft, has no points and one shot on goal in four games this season.
“There's probably some frustration there,” Ruff said. “He's putting a lot of pressure on himself to score goals, and he needs to just relax and play his game. He's a young player, and he's just going through the adjustments that any young player will go through.”
This will be the first appearance of the season for MacDermid.
Other than the MacDermid for Nichushkin swap, the lineup is expected to match what Ruff rolled out Saturday against Minnesota.
Dan Ellis will get the start in goal.
