Dallas Stars Ice Girls Health and Fitness
As a Dallas Stars Ice Girl, leading a healthy and fit lifestyle is essential. Not only does maintaining the playing surface at Stars games require us to be fit, but our position on the squad also makes us a role model for young girls.

As a Dallas Stars Ice Girl, leading a healthy and fit lifestyle is essential. Not only does maintaining the playing surface at Stars games require us to be fit, but our position on the squad also makes us a role model for young girls. With this in mind, we actively encourage maintaining a healthy diet and work on our conditioning during practice both on the ice and in the gym. While we are on the ice we work on endurance through skating drills and in the gym work to improve stamina through high intensity workout routines that combine cardio with weight training. However, staying healthy is a lifestyle that we are responsible for maintaining even outside of practice. By planning ahead, drinking water and setting goals, I am able to track my personal fitness and nutrition progress while also having fun!

Planning Ahead

Between NHL games, practices, school, and work I’ll be the first to admit that it is way easier (and sometimes yummier) to run to the closest fast food restaurant than it is to find time to cook. But, to solve my issue of the fast-food blues I simply make the effort to prepare my meals for the week in advance. Every Sunday I take an afternoon trip to the grocery store and pick out my favorite fruits, fresh veggies, carbohydrates, and lean proteins. Some helpful advice I follow is to have two to three recipes in mind for each trip so that I am less likely to end up with seven boxes of mac and cheese in my shopping cart. After I find what I need for the week, I just cook and store the food and voila! I’m ready for the week.

Drink Water

When it comes to soda, my philosophy is to just say “NO!” Apart from it’s sugary-goodness, soda is calorie-packed and can increase your chances of heart disease and diabetes. Water, on the other hand, has an endless amount of benefits. Choosing water over soda helps me stay hydrated, build muscle, prevent cavities and control weight gain by helping flush out any toxins I might’ve consumed during a cheat-meal.

Set Goals

Even though I recognize the importance of staying healthy and fit, it can get a little boring at times. I’ve found that setting goals is an easy way to keep my workout routines exciting. These goals can be anything from trying to make better time on my run or lift a heavier weight. Anytime I accomplish something I’ve been working on it encourages me to get better and better. Not to mention, it’s the perfect excuse to reward your self with a giant piece of cake.

After planning ahead, drinking water and setting goals, the only thing left to do is be happy. Spending time with the wonderful ladies that make up the Dallas Stars Ice Girls is undisputedly one of the most beneficial supplements to my health. So, surround yourself with the people that make you happy… and then make them workout with you!
