Tuesday’s game in Montreal wrapped up the first month of the season for the Stars, who went 5-6-1 in October. Here’s a look at some numbers from the team’s first month.

Team notes

*The Stars’ .458 points percentage currently ranks 12th among the 14 teams in the Western Conference, but they are 18th among all 30 NHL teams. Their points percentage would be 7th if they were in the East.

*The Stars were 6-5-1 for a points percentage of .542 through their first 12 games last season.

*In October, the Stars did not win more than two games in a row and they did not lose more than two games in a row. Their best points streak was three games (2-0-1).

*The Stars were 2-2-0 in games they outshot their opponents and 3-4-1 in games they were outshot by the opposition.

*The Stars allowed 33.6 shots per game in October, which currently ranks 25th in the NHL. But over their last two games they had their two best efforts of the season in that department, allowing just 25 and 24 shots on goal.

*The Stars averaged 2.50 goals per game (18th in the league) and allowed 2.92 (21st).

*The Stars are tied for 5th in the league in home goals against average at 2.00 per game. On the road, they are tied for 27th, allowing 3.57 goals per game.

*Of the Stars’ 30 goals this season, 7 have been scored by defensemen. Only Phoenix (11), Boston (8), Los Angeles (8) and Ottawa (8) have received more goal production from their defense. San Jose also has 7 goals from defensemen.

*The Stars have six players with multiple goals this season. That’s among the lowest total in the league. Only Buffalo, the New York Rangers and Philadelphia have fewer players with multiple goals, each having 5.

*The Stars have been outscored 24-23 in five-on-five play this season.

*On the special teams front, the Stars have been outscored 9-7 and that includes shorthanded goals for and against.

*The Stars rank 23rd on the power play at 14.6 percent and 18th on the penalty kill at 81.0 percent.

*Their road power play is 7th in the NHL at 24.0 percent, but last at home at 0.0 percent. Their home penalty kill is third in the league at 93.8 percent, but 25th on the road at 73.1 percent.

*The Stars have been about even in power play opportunities to times shorthanded. They have been on the power play 41 times and shorthanded 42 times, for a power play/times shorthanded differential of minus-1. Through the first 12 games of last season their power play/times shorthanded differential was minus-16.

*For the month of October the Stars won 52.4 percent of their faceoffs, which currently ranks 7th in the league. Last season, the Stars ranked 20th in the league with a faceoff winning percentage of 47.2.

*Through their October schedule, the Stars ranked 15th in the league in Close Game Fenwick, a measure of puck possession. The Stars had a Close Game Fenwick percentage of 50.9, which means they are possessing the puck a little more than half the time when the game is close. Close Game Fenwick measures the number of shots directed at the net –including those that miss and excluding those that are blocked – only when the game is tied or within one goal in the first two periods. It eliminates those situations when a team may be protecting a lead and shot totals could be skewed.

Player notes

*Goaltender Kari Lehtonen ranks 4th in the NHL in goals against average (1.66) and 5th in save percentage (.945). Lehtonen’s .935 save percentage while the Stars are on the penalty kill is second best among regular goaltenders in the NHL.

*Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin co-lead the team in points with 12.

*Ten of Seguin’s 12 points have come on the road. Eight of Jamie Benn’s 12 points have come on the road.

*Seguin and Alex Chiasson lead the team in goals with 5.

*Chiasson ranks third among NHL rookies in goals (5) and fourth among rookies in points (9).

*Chiasson leads all NHL rookies with 41 shots on goal.

*Brenden Dillon is tied for second in goal scoring among NHL defensemen with 3.

*Vernon Fiddler ranks 9th in the NHL in faceoff percentage at 57.6 percent.

*Jamie Benn hasn’t taken enough faceoffs to qualify to be among the league leaders, but he has won 67.2 percent of his draws this season (45 of 67).

*Dilion is tops in ice time per game at 20:12

*Dillon leads the Stars in blocked shots with 24.

*Stephane Robidas leads the Stars in hits with 27.

*Robidas and Dillon lead the Stars with plus-6 ratings.
