About the Stars
The Stars (8-6-2) finished the sweep of a three-game road trip with a 4-3 overtime win over the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena Thursday night. Cody Eakin scored a power play goal with 1:10 remaining in regulation to tie the game and Rich Peverley scored at the 4:41 mark of overtime for the Stars, who also beat Ottawa and Boston on the trip.
“It was a good trip for us,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “Games that built character and we needed character to win games and some of our characters provided the wins for us.”
The Stars improved to 5-1-2 over their last eight games overall.
The Stars did not skate Friday. Players worked out off the ice.
The Stars play this one game at home Saturday and then head back out on the road next week for games at Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver.
About the Blackhawks
The Blackhawks (10-2-4) are coming off a 4-1 victory over Winnipeg at United Center on Wednesday. Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane scored goals in the final two-and-half minutes of the first period to give the Blackhawks a 2-0 lead and the defending champs pushed their lead to 4-0 by early in the third.
“That's something we've been focusing on," Toews said. "When you have teams coming in here really elevating their game to begin with, it's not always easy. But we really focused on that in the second and third, and it started defensively. [This] was a solid start, and we kind of sustained that pressure as the game went along.”
Chicago has points in five straight games (4-0-1).
The Blackhawks play Saturdays’ road game against the Stars and then head back to Chicago for a two-game homestand against Edmonton and Phoenix.
