Chiasson Injured After Taking Puck to Face in Practice
Stars forward Alex Chiasson left Wednesday’s practice in Frisco after taking a puck to the face. It happened early in the practice. Chiasson left with a member of the team’s medical staff and did not return. Stars coach Lindy Ruff did not have much of an update after practice.
“I know he got hit in the face and he’s going to be evaluated,” Ruff said. “He hit him pretty hard, so we are concerned there might be some damage.”
At this point, Chiasson’s status for Thursday’s game against the New York Rangers at American Airlines Center is up in the air.
Forward Ray Whitney, who has missed the last three games with a groin injury, practiced again on Wednesday. Ruff said Whitney will be a game day decision for Thursday.
“He’s getting closer. It’s probably a game day decision that we’ll make,” Ruff said. “Every day has been a little harder for him, he’s gone a little harder. I’d like to see him get a couple more harder practices in. Yesterday was probably his first at full tempo, so we’ll see where he is.”
Forward Erik Cole, who was dinged up in the Vancouver game and did not practice Tuesday, was back on the ice for Wednesday’s practice.
Stars recall Connauton, place MacDermid on waivers
The Stars Wednesday recalled defenseman Kevin Connauton from his conditioning assignment with the Texas Stars. Connauton played six games with Texas, registering one assist and a minus-four rating. He’s played one game for Dallas this season.
The Stars also placed forward Lane MacDermid on waivers Wednesday. MacDermid has two assists in six games for Dallas. The Stars will know if he clears at 11 a.m. Central Time on Thursday. If he does clear, he likely will head to the Texas Stars at some point.
