Brenden Morrow, Blues up next for Stars
The Dallas Stars head back out on the road this weekend, taking on the St. Louis Blues Saturday night.

The Dallas Stars head back out on the road this weekend, taking on the St. Louis Blues Saturday night. It will be the first time the Stars have played against former captain Brenden Morrow since he was traded last season.

Morrow, who was dealt to Pittsburgh in March, signed with the Blues as a free agent in September. Morrow played 13 seasons with the Stars, and served as the team’s captain for seven seasons.

“It will be interesting. It will be kind of weird to see him. Haven’t got to play against that guy before,” said Stars defenseman Trevor Daley. “Just like playing against Steve Ott, it will be special. Morrow was the biggest part of this team ever since I’ve been here. It’s going to be a little different seeing him on the other side.”

“It will be my first game against him. I’ve never played against him,” said Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas. “I know how hard he battles. He’s been a great player for this organization. I am sure it is going to be a special game for him. It will be special for us to see our old captain. At the same time, we need to be ready because they are a good team. We need to focus on them, not really on Brenden.”

Morrow has six points (four goals, two assists) in 15 games for the Blues, who are 15-3-3 this season and own the best points percentage (.786) in the NHL.

“We’re excited, yeah,” said Daley. “Our team is pretty good, too. We’ll give them respect in the standings, but when we’re out there they lace up the skates the same way, too. It’s going to be a fun game.”

Whitney update

Stars forward Ray Whitney, who has missed the last four games with a groin injury, went through another full practice Friday. Stars coach Lindy Ruff wouldn’t rule Whitney out for Saturday’s game in St. Louis.

“I thought today he looked better,” Ruff said. “We’ll see where we’re at, we’ll see where he is post-practice. It’s a possibility.”

Stars deal MacDermid

The Stars traded forward Lane MacDermid to Calgary for a sixth round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft. The Stars acquired MacDermid from Boston last season in the Jaromir Jagr deal. MacDermid had two assists in six games this season for the Stars.

“He played well for us when he did, but right now he is not in the top 13 or 14 forwards on the team,” said Stars GM Jim Nill. “He needs to play and we got an asset back in return, a draft pick in return. We have a lot of depth in the minors. If we didn’t have a lot of depth in the minors, we’d be more hesitant to do it. We have lots of kids that are ready to come up and play in the minors, and some veterans down there, too. So we’re good.”

Stars remember JFK

The Stars held a moment of silence at the beginning of Friday’s 12:30 p.m. practice to mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy in Dallas.

“We were just recognizing the anniversary of the loss of the president,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “We knew Dallas was doing it, so we thought it was appropriate that we did it as a team.”
