Stars-Ducks Preview
Previewing Tuesday night\'s tilt between the Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks.

Anaheim Ducks at Dallas Stars
Tuesday, November 26
7:00 p.m.
TV: NBC Sports Network
Radio: The Ticket 1310 AM/96.7 FM

About the Stars

The Stars (11-9-2) lost their seconds straight game, falling 6-1 at St. Louis Saturday. The loss snapped a six-game road winning streak for the Stars, who open a three-game homestand on Tuesday.

The Stars, who are 0-2-2 in their last four contests at home, play Anaheim and Chicago, two of the top teams in the West, in the first two games of the homestand.

“Our opportunity to move up (the standings) is going to be playing better against the top teams, not making some of the mental mistakes,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “Our energy and our work ethic inside the games has been really good. The place I need to help our team is the mentality of some of the situations.”

The Stars are 1-6-1 against teams that currently qualify for the playoffs in the Western Conference.

“Those are the teams you have to beat,” said Stars forward Shawn Horcoff. “They are four point games, and those are the teams you have to get to or jump over. Chicago and Anaheim are pretty high up there, but you just can’t beat teams that are out of the playoffs. You have to beat the good teams, the best teams. That’s always a good measuring stick. These next two games are going to go a long ways for us.”

Left wing Ray Whitney, who has missed the last five games with a groin injury, is expected to return for Tuesday’s game.

Stars coach Lindy Ruff said backup goaltender Dan Ellis would get a start soon, but wouldn’t say if it would come Tuesday night against the Ducks.

Injuries: LW Ray Whitney (groin) is expected to return

About the Ducks

The Ducks (17-6-3) are coming off a 4-2 victory at Phoenix on Saturday. Dustin Penner scored two goals for Anaheim, which won its second straight following a five-game winless streak (0-3-2).

The injury woes continued for the Ducks, who lost defenseman Bryan Allen to a lower body injury in the game. The Ducks lost defenseman Luca Sbisa for six to eight weeks to a hand injury on Friday. They lost defenseman Francois Beauchemin to an upper body injury in the game before that. Sheldon Souray remains out due to offseason wrist surgery. Also out for the Ducks: G Viktor Fasth, C Saku Koivu and RW Jakob Silfverberg.

"We have a lot of depth," said Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf. "We had to play so many guys so many games last year and they played really well. Now we've had numerous guys go down here again and guys keep stepping in and filling those roles, and we have great goaltending."

The Ducks recalled defensemen Sami Vatanen and Nolan Yonkman from Norfolk of the AHL over the weekend to cover the injuries on the blue line.

Injuries: D Francois Beauchemin (upper body), G Viktor Fasth (lower body), C Saku Koivu (head), D Luca Sbisa (wrist), RW Jakob Silfverberg, D Bryan Allen (lower body) and D Sheldon Souray (wrist) are out.
