Peluso Suspended Three Games for Hit on Goligoski
The NHL has suspended Winnipeg Jets forward Anthony Peluso for three games without pay for his hit on Stars defenseman Alex Goligoski in Saturday\u2019s game in Winnipeg.

The NHL has suspended Winnipeg Jets forward Anthony Peluso for three games without pay for his hit on Stars defenseman Alex Goligoski in Saturday’s game in Winnipeg.

The incident happened at 15:28 of the second period. Peluso hit Goligoski from behind, driving him into the glass and temporarily knocking him out of the game. Peluso received a boarding major and game misconduct.

“After Goligoski chips the puck into the neutral zone, Peluso cuts to his right and drives up with considerable force into Goligoski’s back, causing him to hit the glass violently. This is boarding,” the NHL’s Department of Player Safety said in announcing the suspension. “Goligoski makes no movements just prior to or simultaneous with this hit to turn his back to Peluso. Rather, Peluso sees Goligoski’s back for some time and distance before he delivers the check. Therefore, the onus is entirely upon Peluso to avoid this check completely or, at the very least, minimize its force. Instead, Peluso rises up and drives forcefully through this hit, causing Goligoski’s head to crash into the glass.”

Goligoski was injured on the play, heading to the locker room to receive 12 stitches for a cut on his head. He did return to play the third period.

The Stars scored twice on the five-minute power play that resulted from the major penalty on Peluso to take a 5-3 lead in the game, which they eventually won 6-4.

The suspension will cost Peluso $8,653.86 in salary. The forfeited salary will go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
