About the Stars

The Stars (17-12-6) are coming off a 3-2 shootout loss in San Jose on Saturday. The Stars put 46 shots on goal, had a 2-0 lead in the game, but the Sharks rallied to tie and then won in a five-round shootout.

"We had some great opportunities and we could've put the game away in the second period,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “We didn't get much luck, we had a quick whistle and that hurt us. We had some great opportunities where [Sharks goaltender Alex Stalock] made some good saves, we had some great opportunities where we missed the net, even in the third after the first couple of minutes. You come in here and win the faceoff battle and get over 40 shots. I thought we really skated well."

The Stars are 2-0-1 in their last three games and 3-1-1 over the last five.

The Stars lost defenseman Sergei Gonchar in the game. He took a puck in the face in the second period and did not return to the game. He has concussion-like symptoms and will miss Monday’s game. Maxime Fortunus, signed to a one-year contract on Wednesday, will take Gonchar’s spot in the lineup against the Kings.

Injuries: D Sergei Gonchar (concussion-like symptoms), D Aaron Rome (lower body), D Trevor Daley (ankle) and D Stephane Robidas (leg) are out.

About the Kings

The Kings (25-8-4) ran their winning streak to three games and won for the ninth time in the last ten games with a 3-2 shootout victory over Colorado at Staples Center Saturday. Goaltender Martin Jones improved to 8-0-0 to start his NHL career, stopping 23 of 25 shots in regulation and overtime and then all three shots he faced in the shootout.

"I don't know what to say, to be honest with you," said Kings forward Anze Kopitar, who scored the lone goal of the shootout. "You get a couple [goals], and it's pretty much a done deal. He's been great. I don't know how many times I have said this before: He's giving us a chance and that's all you really want."

Jones has a 0.98 goals against average and .966 save percentage. He has stopped all 12 shootout attempts he’s faced this season.

The Kings improved to 14-2-3 since No. 1 goaltender Jonathan Quick went out of the lineup with a groin injury.

Injuries: G Jonathan Quick (groin) is out.
