Faksa, Czechs Fall to USA on Day One of World Juniors
Dallas Stars prospect Radek Faksa and the Czech Republic got off to a rough start at the World Junior Championship, falling 5-1 to the United States on the opening day of the tournament in Malmo, Sweden.

Dallas Stars prospect Radek Faksa and the Czech Republic got off to a rough start at the World Junior Championship, falling 5-1 to the United States on the opening day of the tournament in Malmo, Sweden.

The United States took advantage of some Czech penalty problems early in the game, scoring two power play goals in the first two minutes to take a 2-0 lead. The USA pushed its lead to 4-0 by the end of the second period.

Faksa, who is an alternate captain for the Czechs, had no points, no shots and an even rating in the game. He won 11 of 18 faceoffs.

In Thursday’s other games, Detroit prospect Anthony Mantha scored three goals to lead Canada to a 7-2 victory over Germany. Russia scored five goals in the first 15 minutes of the game and then cruised to an 11-0 victory over Norway. And Nashville’s Filip Forsberg had one goal and two assists for Sweden, which defeated Switzerland 5-3.

Stars defense prospect Esa Lindell will play his first game of the tournament on Friday when Finland takes on Norway.
