Saturday Practice Update
The Dallas Stars have a few question marks going into Sunday\u2019s game against the St. Louis Blues.

The Dallas Stars have a few question marks going into Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Blues. A few players didn’t skate Saturday due to illness. Defenseman Alex Goligoski and forwards Cody Eakin and Rich Peverley were not on the ice.

Since tomorrow’s game is at 5 p.m., the Stars won’t have the usual morning skate but they’ll get together Sunday prior to the game to sort out the personnel issues.

“We’ll meet at the rink, have a meeting early,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “The guys that didn’t skate today, we’ll have a few guys skate so we can make a decision on who is going to be ready and who is not.”

Alex Chiasson, who has missed the last two games due to illness, practiced on Saturday and said he is feeling better. His status for Sunday is up in the air, but he is itching to get back in the lineup.

“I’ll go to the rink tomorrow and see how I feel,” Chiasson said. “Not playing is tough. We had a great game in L.A., and last night, too. The team played well coming out of the Christmas break. Things are going well and we are right there. You want to be part of this team, you want to be part of the success. It’s tough sitting on the bike watching the guys play.”

Chiasson said he lost 15 pounds in three days while battling the illness, but his parents are in town and mom is making sure there is plenty of food around to help him put that lost weight back on.

“That makes life a lot easier. There is food around my place a lot,” Chiasson said. “My weight was a lot better this morning. I am still a couple pounds down, but hopefully that will come back with eating, skating and getting back into things.”

Sceviour assigned to AHL

The Stars assigned right wing Colton Sceviour to the Texas Stars of the AHL Saturday afternoon.

Sceviour, who practiced in Frisco Saturday morning, had an impressive showing during his call up to Dallas, registering three goals and one assist in seven games.

Despite spending almost three weeks in the NHL, Sceviour is still the leading goal scorer in the AHL with 18 in 26 games.

Gonchar works out off ice

Stars defenseman Sergei Gonchar, who has missed the last two games with concussion-like symptoms, is making progress. He worked out off the ice on Saturday.

“Better, better,” Stars coach Lindy Ruff said of Gonchar’s condition. “He was exercising, so we’ll see how he made out. He had a bike ride off ice, and if he gets through that we’ll get him on the ice.”

Stars defenseman Trevor Daley, who is out with a lower body injury, skated in a track suit prior to practice Saturday morning. He still has a ways to go before he is ready to play.

Stars face Blues Sunday

After their win Friday over Nashville, the Stars pulled to within two points of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. They’ll face a stiff test Sunday when the St. Louis Blues come to American Airlines Center.

“If we are going to keep progressing then we are going to have to get points against the teams that are above us,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “You want to play well against the teams that are below you, but it’s important that if you want to move up that you beat the teams ahead of you. We know they have been one of the top teams, they have been very consistent through the first 40. We know we are going to have our hands full.”
