Lindell Assists as Finland Tops Russia at World Juniors
Stars defense prospect Esa Lindell assisted on the game-winning goal as Finland knocked off Russia, 4-1, in preliminary round play at the World Junior Championship in Malmo, Sweden on Monday.

Lindell, Dallas’ third round pick (74th overall) in 2012, had the secondary assist on an even strength goal that gave Finland a 2-1 lead at 10:20 of the second period.

Lindell finished the game with a team-high four shots on goal and a plus-one rating. Lindell has one goal and one assist in three tournament games so far. Finland wraps up preliminary round play with a game against Switzerland on Tuesday.

Stars prospect Radek Faksa (first round/2012) and Czech Republic fell to Germany, 3-0, on Monday. Faksa had no points, two shots on goal and a minus-one rating. He was five of 13 faceoffs. Faksa has no points in three games. The Czechs play Slovakia in their final preliminary round game on Tuesday.

In Monday’s other games, Canada rallied from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Slovakia, 5-3. Winnipeg prospect Nic Petan scored on the power play to snap a 3-3 tie with 2:46 left in the third period and then scored an empty-net goal to seal the win. Switzerland defeated Norway, 3-2.
