Lindell, Finland Advance to Semifinals at World Juniors
Stars defense prospect Esa Lindell and Finland advanced to the semifinals at the World Junior Championship, defeating Stars prospect Radek Faksa and Czech Republic, 5-3, in Malmo, Sweden Thursday.

Stars defense prospect Esa Lindell and Finland advanced to the semifinals at the World Junior Championship, defeating Stars prospect Radek Faksa and Czech Republic, 5-3, in Malmo, Sweden Thursday.

Finland rallied from a 3-1 deficit, scoring four unanswered goals over the final 21:55 of the game to eliminate the Czechs from the tournament.

Lindell had one assist in the game, picking up a secondary helper on the first goal of the game that gave Finland a 1-0 lead. Faksa scored from the slot in the second period to give the Czechs a 3-1 lead.

Faksa ended the tournament with one goal in five games. Lindell has four points (one goal, three assists) in five games. Finland will play Canada in the semifinals on Saturday. Sweden will meet Russian in the other semifinals match.

In Thursday’s other quarterfinals games, Canada defeated Switzerland, 4-1. New York Islanders prospect Griffin Reinhart had one goal and one assist for the Canadians.

Russia defeated the United States, 5-3. Buffalo’s Nikita Zadorov scored two five-on-three power play goals for Russia.

Sweden defeated Slovakia, 6-0. Nashville’s Filip Forsberg and Carolina’s Elias Lindholm both registered four points for Sweden.
