Stars-Islanders Preview
Previewing Sunday evening\'s tilt between the Dallas Stars and New York Islanders.

New York Islanders at Dallas Stars
Sunday, January 12
5:00 p.m.
TV: Fox Sports Southwest
Radio: The Ticket 1310 AM/96.7 FM

About the Stars

The Stars (20-17-7) dropped their fifth straight game, losing 3-2 to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden Friday. Rangers forward Rick Nash scored the game-winning goal with 1:58 left in the third period.

“I thought for the majority of the game we played well enough to win,” said Stars center Cody Eakin, who had a goal and an assist in the game. “We took in some water at the end of the second, had some good chances in the third. Our goalie, Kari [Lehtonen], was huge for us as always. We didn’t finish with the result we wanted.”

Friday’s game wrapped up a three game road trip for the Stars. They now play three straight and eight of the next ten at home. They start with the Islanders, a team that blew them away, 7-3, less than a week ago on Long Island.

“You use part of that game as motivation,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “They made us look pretty bad and I am using pretty in a light term. I could throw another adjective in there and I won’t. You’ve got this opportunity to come back.”

Injuries: D Stephane Robidas (leg) is out.

About the Islanders

The Islanders (17-22-7) won their third straight game, defeating Colorado, 2-1, at Pepsi Center Friday night. Kevin Poulin stopped 30 of 31 shots and Michael Grabner scored the game-winner at 1:46 of overtime.

"We're battling, we're playing hard," said Islanders coach Jack Capuano. "Tonight, we had 20 guys going. Not for the 60 minutes, but we picked it up when we had to pick it up. That's what I liked about our team tonight.”

The win was the sixth straight on the road for the Islanders, who earlier this season dropped ten in a row away from home.

"We've been a decent road team,” Capuano said. “Simple hockey maybe, and doing the right things. Goaltending has been pretty good for us. Our special teams on the road over the last two weeks have been good."

Injuries: G Evgeni Nabokov (lower body), D Lubomir Visnovsky (concussion) and D Radek Martinek (back) are out.
