Stars-Wild Notes

The league could end up taking a look at a hit by Stars captain Jamie Benn on Minnesota forward Matt Cooke early in overtime.

As Benn was carrying the puck into the Minnesota zone, he appeared to catch Cooke up high with an elbow. There was no penalty called on the play.

Neither team was saying much, claiming they hadn’t seen a replay of the hit.

“No,” Stars coach Lindy Ruff said when asked if he had looked at the play. “I saw a quick one on the clock, but it happened so fast and he is trying to dish the puck.”

Said Minnesota coach Mike Yeo, “I haven’t had a chance to watch a replay, but when I watched it live certainly it looked like he came up high on him. But, like I said, I haven’t seen a replay.”

Chiasson snaps drought

Alex Chiasson’s third period power play goal was his first goal since Dec. 3. Chiasson had gone 19 games without scoring before knocking home the rebound of an Alex Goligoski shot Saturday night in Minnesota.

“It’s been a while,” Chiasson said. “You go through a phase where maybe you think too much and they a lot of it has to do with confidence. I’ll be the first one to admit that. After that goal, I felt so much more comfortable on the ice, just playing and finding the spots I am used to getting. It would have been better if we ended up with two points.”

Line juggling

Stars coach Lindy Ruff juggled his lines coming into the game, and he juggled them again during the game. He eventually split up Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin in the third period. Benn played on a line with Cody Eakin and Alex Chiasson. Seguin played on a line with Antoine Roussel and Rich Peverley.

Rome returns

Defenseman Aaron Rome returned to the lineup after missing three games with a knee injury.

“It was kind of a freak fluid in my knee and I had to give it a couple days to get it out,” Rome said. “It feels good.”

The game was only the tenth of the season for Rome, who missed the start of the season due to hip surgeries. The hip has forced him to sit out a couple of other times this season.
