Stars-Devils Notes

Here are some quotes from Dallas Stars coach Lindy Ruff following Thursday’s 3-2 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils.

Ruff on the team’s performance

“I thought we were awful. I thought we came out flat and could’ve dictated play with our power play in the first and we were awful from the start. We lost one-on-one battles, we got out-skated and you don’t win many games playing like that. We knew it was going to be tough. I thought in the second (period) we responded and got a little bit better, but it caught up to us. We took a bad penalty, got caught in overtime. A point is good, but you don’t like the way you played not for one second. You don’t win games playing like that. They won the battles, they won the foot races. We had a five-on-three and didn’t generate anything and I think that sums up the evening for us.”

Ruff on rallying for a point in the game

“The point is big and the fact that we battled and we had guys on their knees in front of the net for that last goal to pick up a point is big, but we are doing a little bit of that dance where we’re taking a step ahead and taking a step back, we won three and lost a game we should’ve won. We need all of the points we can get. There’s no dancing around this one, we have to pick up points. A point is good, but we need more than that and I thought as a team it was unacceptable the way we came out tonight.”

Ruff on generating nothing on the early five-on-three power play

“It was a killer. For me, that lifts their bench and puts the hammer down on ours.”
