About the Stars

The Stars (26-21-9) moved to within two points of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with a 3-1 victory at Phoenix Tuesday night. Antoine Roussel’s goal early in the third period snapped a 1-1 tie and held up as the game-winner for the Stars, who improved to 5-1-1 over their last seven games.

“We knew that was one of the biggest games of the year,” said Roussel. “We didn't start the way we wanted, but the third period was really good for us and we got the win. The last 10 minutes we locked it down and didn't give them much.”

For the fifth time in the last seven games, the Stars allowed one goal or fewer.

With a win Wednesday, the Stars would take over the final wild card spot in the West based on the points percentage tiebreaker.

Injuries: D Stephane Robidas (leg) is out.

About the Sharks

The Sharks (35-16-6) lost for the fourth time in their last five games, falling 5-2 to Philadelphia at SAP Center in San Jose Monday night. The Sharks led 2-1 going into the third period, but the Flyers scored three goals in less than three minutes early in the third to take control of the game.

“Even in the second period, we weren't the better team. We were playing with fire. It was a matter of time. If we continued to play that way, we were going to get burned and we did,” said Sharks coach Todd McLellan.

The Sharks have scored just four goals over their last five games and have been shut out twice in that span.

This is the third game of a four-game homestand that will take the Sharks into the Olympic break. They are 1-1-0 in the first two games.

Injuries: D Jason Demers (lower body) and LW Tyler Kennedy (lower body) are day to day. C Logan Couture (upper body), LW Tomas Hertl (knee), RW Adam Burish (back) and LW Raffi Torres (ACL) are out.
