Texas Stars Report

The Texas Stars hit the AHL’s All-Star break sitting in second place in the West Division and fourth in the Western Conference with a 29-15-6 record. The Stars are two points behind Abbotsford, which is in first in both the Western Conference and the West Division.

Texas, which went 1-1-1 over the past week, was 4-5-1 in its final ten games before the break.

Stars center Travis Morin set a new franchise record for points in a season when he recorded point number 67 last week, breaking his own record of 66 set in 2011-12.

Morin and teammate Colton Sceviour will play in this week’s AHL All-Star Classic and so will a top Stars defense prospect from Europe.

Here’s the latest on Dallas’ AHL affiliate.

Tuesday, February 4: Oklahoma City 5, Texas 2

The Stars wrapped up a seven-game homestand with a 5-2 loss to Oklahoma City on Tuesday, ending the stretch with a 3-4-0 record. Jamie Oleksiak and Travis Morin scored goals. Josh Robinson got the start in goal and stopped 27 of 31 shots.

"I don't think we played good enough," said Texas coach Willie Desjardins. "OKC played well, they didn't give us a lot, and we didn’t get going. Our specialty teams have been good all year and they just weren’t good enough the past couple games. We lost that battle, and that's the difference between winning and losing."

Saturday, February 8: Abbotsford 3, Texas 2 (SO)

Texas was in Abbotsford over the weekend for a pair of games against the Western Conference leaders and dropped the first one, 3-2, in a shootout on Saturday. Brett Ritchie and Hubert Labrie scored goals for Texas. Morin picked up an assist, establishing a new franchise mark for points in a season with his 67th point. Morin, who set the club record with 66 points in 2011-12, broke it in game in Texas’ 49th game of the season. Cristopher Nilstorp got the start in goal, stopping 25 of 27 in regulation and overtime, and then stopping four of seven in the shootout. Dustin Jeffrey and Chris Mueller tallied in the shootout for Texas.

Sunday, February 9: Texas 7, Abbotsford 2

The Stars headed into the All-Star break with a 7-2 win over Abbotsford on Sunday, pulling to within two points of both the Western Conference and West Division leads. Colton Sceviour and Scott Glennie scored two goals each. Ritchie, Jyrki Jokipakka and Hedden also scored for the Stars, who tied a franchise record for goals in a period when they tallied six times in the second. Nilstorp stopped 33 of 35 shots.
