Eakin, Horcoff Out Tonight vs. Flames
Both Cody Eakin and Shawn Horcoff will miss tonight\u2019s game against the Calgary Flames at American Airlines Center.

Both Cody Eakin and Shawn Horcoff will miss tonight’s game against the Calgary Flames at American Airlines Center.

Both players were injured by pucks. Eakin (lower body) was hit in Tuesday’s game in St. Louis and Horcoff (upper body) was hit in Thursday’s practice in Frisco.

“Cody’s day-to-day. Hopefully he’ll play in Winnipeg,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “Shawn might be a little bit longer.”

The Stars recalled Travis Morin and Chris Mueller from the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League. Both skated with the team this morning and both will be in the lineup tonight vs. the Flames.

Morin will center a line with Erik Cole and Colton Sceviour on the wings. Morin and Sceviour play together on the Texas Stars’ top line and are among the top scorers in the American Hockey League. Morin ranks first in points (74) and third in goals (29) in 55 games. Sceviour ranks first in goals (32) and third in points (63) in 55 games.

“They’ve got tremendous numbers. I’m excited about seeing them play together,” Ruff said. “I was down there for a game and got to see them play. Obviously, those numbers speak for themselves and I think Travis is a good two-way player. He plays well in his own end. He’s been a good power-play player for them down there and Scevs obviously is I think a benefactor of some of his playmaking ability and we hope they can be good for us tonight.”

Sceviour and Morin have both seen playing time in the NHL, but have never played on a line together at this level.

“It will be cool,” said Sceviour. “We played in the same game, my first ever NHL game, but never on the same line, so it will be kind of cool to give that a shot here at the NHL level.”

The two have been teammates in Texas for the past five seasons, have been playing as linemates the past couple seasons and that’s why they click so well together.

“There’s a lot of familiarity,” said Morin. “We’ve played two years together now pretty much on the same line in Cedar Park. He’s a more of a shooter and I am more of a passer. That works well, we are able to read off each other well.”

Mueller, who is tied for eighth in the AHL in points (54) and tied for seventh in goals (24) in 58 games, is expected to center a line with Ray Whitney and Ryan Garbutt tonight.

Tim Thomas will start tonight vs. the Flames and Cristopher Nilstorp will serve as the backup.

Joey MacDonald will start in goal for the Flames, his first start in the NHL since November. MacDonald has been playing for Abbotsford in the AHL, where his last start was March 4, a 3-1 loss to the Texas Stars.

Lehtonen skates, could be ready Sunday

Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen, who has been out since last Saturday with a concussion, took part in this morning’s skate. He will see a doctor on Friday and if all goes well, could be available to play on Sunday.

“Kari will get tested. Obviously, he’s looked good the last couple days. He’ll go through his protocol. We’ll get an update later today and if that update is good, he’ll be available in all likelihood to play our next game,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff.

Quotable

“I think we’ll be alright, but I am wondering how he is going to do. Maybe we’ll have to call him to ask him that.”

Stars center Travis Morin, when asked if he and Colton Sceviour will be OK in tonight’s game without Curtis McKenzie, who plays on their line with the Texas Stars.
