Dallas Stars Forward Tyler Seguin Nominated for King Clancy Memorial Trophy

The Dallas Stars announced today that forward Tyler Seguin has been voted by his teammates as the club's nominee for the National Hockey League's King Clancy Memorial Trophy. The award is given annually to the NHL player "who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."

Seguin, 22, is in his fourth NHL season and his first with Dallas after being acquired via trade from the Boston Bruins on July 4, 2013. As the result of one of his best friends suffering a severe spinal cord injury in December 2012, he created Seguin's Stars upon arriving in Dallas. At every Stars home game during the season, Seguin donated a luxury suite, along with food and beverage, for individuals with spinal cord injuries. At the conclusion of every game, Seguin met his guests outside of the Stars locker room for autographs and pictures.

Over 500 individuals attended a Stars game on behalf of Seguin's Stars this season, many of which had never attended a professional hockey game before. This season, Seguin partnered with the Southwest Wheelchair Athletic Association (SWAA), a local non-profit organization that provides sports competition for those individuals with a physical disability, to help coordinate ticket distribution.

Seguin also participated in the inaugural Community Chest Charity Alumni Game on March 22 at American Airlines Center following the Dallas Stars game against the Ottawa Senators. The game was played in memory of local hockey player, Travis Stryker, who along with his mother and father were killed in a tragic car accident en route to a hockey tournament. With the help of Seguin, the game raised over $20,000 to benefit the Stryker Family and support the future needs of the hockey community in Texas.

Along with Seguin's Stars and participating in the Community Chest Charity Alumni Game, Seguin supported the Dallas Stars Foundation throughout the season in numerous other ways including:

• Purchased tickets for military personnel and their families for Stars Military Night.
• After scoring a hat trick against the Philadelphia Flyers on Dec. 7, he donated all of the hats thrown on the ice to patients at Children's Medical Center.
• One of the players featured in the Dallas Stars Foundation poster series.
• Participated in the team's annual hospital visit to Children's Medical Center.

The Brampton, Ontario native currently leads the team in scoring with 83 points (36-47=83) in 78 games. During the 2013-14 campaign, Seguin has set career-highs in goals (36), assists (47), points (83), power-play goals (10) and game-winning goals (8). Originally selected second overall in the 2010 NHL Draft by Boston, Seguin currently ranks third in the NHL in points (83), sixth in goals (36) and seventh in game-winning goals (8).
