Stars Will Face Anaheim Ducks In First Round of Playoffs

The Dallas Stars will take on the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Ducks secured the top seed in the Western Conference with a 4-3 shootout win over Los Angeles Saturday night, ensuring the matchup with the Stars, who hold the second wild card spot.

Game 1 will be played on Wednesday, April 16 at the Honda Center in Anaheim at 9:00pm CT. (Click here for the full schedule)

Since the Stars are playing the top-seeded Ducks in the first round as a wild card, they will compete in the Pacific Division playoffs under the NHL’s new playoff format. The winner of the Stars-Ducks series will play the winner of the San Jose Sharks-Los Angeles Kings series in the second round.

This will be the third time the Stars and Ducks have met in the playoffs. The Stars defeated the Ducks 4-2 in the 2008 Western Conference Quarterfinal. The Ducks defeated the Stars 4-2 in the 2003 Western Conference Semifinal.

The Stars were 2-1-0 against the Ducks this season, winning one of two games in Anaheim and taking the only game in Dallas.

Oct. 20, Dallas at Anaheim: Ducks 6, Stars 3

Ryan Getzlaf (one goal, three assist) and Corey Perry (two goals, one assist) combined for seven points as the Ducks defeated the Stars 6-3, spoiling the NHL debut of Dallas goaltender Jack Campbell. The Stars, playing on the second night of a back-to-back, squandered a 3-1 lead in the game. Campbell made 41 saves for the Stars, who were outshot 47-36. Jonas Hiller started for the Ducks, but was pulled after allowing three goals on 12 shots in the first period. Frederik Andersson played the final two periods and stopped 24 shots to earn a win in his NHL debut.

Nov. 26, Anaheim at Dallas: Stars 6, Ducks 3

Cody Eakin, Stephane Robidas and Ryan Garbutt scored goals 53 seconds apart early in the third period as the Stars turned a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead and went on to defeat the Ducks 6-3 at American Airlines Center. The Stars line of Antoine Roussel (two goals), Vernon Fiddler (two assists) and Garbutt (one goal, two assists) had a big night offensively for the Stars. Dan Ellis started in goal for Dallas, stopping 28 of 31 shots. Hiller started for the Ducks and stopped 27 of 32 shots.

Feb. 1, Dallas at Anaheim: Stars 2, Ducks 0

Ellis pitched a 26-save shutout as the Stars defeated the Ducks 2-0 at Honda Center. It was the first time the Ducks had been shutout in 2013-14. Trevor Daley scored the game-winning goal for the Stars, tallying off a rebound on the rush at 5:03 of the second period. Jamie Benn scored an empty net goal late in the third to seal the win. Hiller got the start in goal for the Ducks and stopped 25 of 26 shots.
