Prospect Report: Dickinson, Paul Come Up Big as OHL Championship Series Opens

Dallas Stars forward prospects Jason Dickinson and Nick Paul came up big as the Guelph Storm and North Bay Battalion split the first two games of the Ontario Hockey League Championship Series. The winner will represent the OHL at the Memorial Cup tournament, which will be played later this month in London, Ontario.

Game 1, Thursday May 1, at Guelph: Guelph 3, North Bay 2 (OT)

Dickinson scored 57 seconds into overtime to give Guelph a 3-2 win in Game 1 of the OHL Championship Series Thursday night.

Dickinson, Dallas’ first round pick (29th overall) in 2013, took a pass in neutral ice, skated into the North Bay zone and scored off a wrist shot from right faceoff circle.

“In my mind it was just get it through,” Dickinson told media after the game. “The guy went down to try and block it and I just found a hole through his legs and tried to put it through.”

Dickinson was a plus-two on the night for Guelph.

Paul had no points and an even rating in the game for North Bay.

Paul, the Stars’ fourth round pick (101st overall) in 2013, tied the game with 5:28 remaining in regulation with a power play goal, tallying off a shot from the right faceoff circle.

In overtime, Paul won a battle along the boards to get the puck to Ben Thompson, who then set up Barclay Goodrow for the game-winner at 2:30 of overtime.
