Mike Modano to be Inducted Into Hockey Hall of Fame
The Hockey Hall of Fame announced today that Dallas Stars icon Mike Modano will be inducted as a member of the 2014 class.

The Hockey Hall of Fame announced today that Dallas Stars icon Mike Modano will be inducted as a member of the 2014 class along with Rob Blake, Peter Forsberg, Dominik Hasek, Pat Burns and Bill McCreary.

Mike Modano will be made available to the media today at 4:00 p.m. CT in the interview room at American Airlines Center (directly across from Stars locker room). Media members wishing to attend should park in the AudiPark Garage and enter through the Administration Entrance, located on the Northwest corner of the arena.

Modano joins Harry Howell (1979), Gump Worsley (1980), John Mariucci (1985), Leo Boivin (1986), Al Shaver (broadcaster, 1993), Brett Hull (2009), Joe Nieuwendyk (2011) and Ed Belfour (2011) as the only members of the Stars franchise to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He also becomes the 12th American-born player and the second from Michigan to be selected to the Hall.

"Mike's selection into the Hockey Hall of Fame cements what many of us here in Dallas have known for a long time - he is not only a Stars franchise icon, he's one of the finest NHL players of his era," said Dallas Stars Owner and Governor Tom Gaglardi. "He is very deserving of this great honor, and his induction into this exclusive club is a testament to the legacy he has built with his brilliant career and first-class persona. We congratulate Mike, as well as his family and the rest of the 2014 Hockey Hall of Fame class."

Modano played 21 seasons in the NHL and is the all-time Stars franchise leader in nearly every category, including games played (1,459), goals (557), assists (802), points (1,359), short-handed goals (29), game-winning goals (92) and power play tallies (156). A seven-time NHL All-Star and United States Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, Modano is also the American record holder in goals (561) and points (1,374), ranking 23rd all-time among all NHL players in points. He was also instrumental in helping the Dallas Stars capture the 1999 Stanley Cup championship.

On March 8, 2014, Modano's iconic No. 9 was retired, joining Neal Broten (No. 7), Bill Goldswothy (No. 8) and Bill Masterton (No. 19) as the only players in Stars franchise history to have their number retired by the organization.

The Livonia, Michigan, native skated for Team USA at the Olympic Games on three separate occasions, winning the silver medal at the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City. He also captured the gold medal at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and was captain of the United States squad at the 2005 World Cup.

Modano was drafted first overall in 1988 by the Minnesota North Stars.
