Jason Farris joined the Dallas Stars in January 2012 as Executive Vice President. In his now dual role of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, Farris oversees all aspects of Dallas Sports & Entertainment's finance and administration, box office, human resources, and information technology. He also has responsibility for leading the business areas of merchandising, the Dr Pepper StarCenters, and the 6,000 seat Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas. Within the community, Farris serves as Board Chair of the Dallas Stars Foundation, is a member of the advisory board of the Dallas Stars Alumni Association, and leads the Stars youth hockey initiatives that endeavor to continue to grow the game of hockey at the grassroots level in Texas.
A native of Vancouver, Farris brings a depth of business expertise and passion for hockey to the Stars. Farris was the President and CEO of Citizens Bank of Canada, one of 21 Schedule I banks in Canada. Before financial services, he spent ten years in the software industry as an executive with Fincentric Corporation and earlier with MacDonald Dettwiler & Associates. A multi-dimensional professional, Farris also founded the publishing company, circaNow Media. Through circaNow, Farris authored and published four hockey books: Behind the Moves: NHL General Managers Tell how Winners are Built (2011) which was hailed as “the most important hockey book in over a decade"; Hail Cesare: Trail through the NHL (2006) about Stars' franchise legendary goalie, Cesare Maniago; a national best-seller in Canada, Hockey Play-by-Play: Around the NHL with Jim Robson (2005) and its encore edition, Hockey Play-by-Play: Canuck Captains with Jim Robson (2010).
Farris holds a Master of Science in Management from MIT Sloan School of Management in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He has been a member of the Society for International Hockey Research since 1995 and is a contributor to Total NHL and to the annual NHL Official Guide and Record Book.
Farris is never far from the rink. For years he was a Hockey Canada official, having refereed and lined hundreds of minor hockey games. Though he grew up between the pipes, he can now be found playing in local men's league games as a centerman or right winger.
Jason and his wife Sarah have two children, Jane and Owen and they reside in University Park.
