CHICAGO (AP) _ Ron Tugnutt made the most of some rare playing time.

Tugnutt, making just his seventh appearance, stopped 26 shots for his first shutout of the season and 26th of his career to lead the Dallas Stars to a 4-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.

``This was a solid game,'' Tugnutt said. ``We are a better team than them. So if we give them confidence like we did in Pittsburgh, it could have been a tougher night. We didn't give them the opportunity and, therefore, did our job.''

Pierre Turgeon and Jere Lehtinen each had a goal and assist for the Stars, who snapped a three-game winless streak (0-2-1). Bill Guerin and Valeri Bure also scored for Dallas.

``Tuggy made some big saves and we played solid defense,'' Turgeon said.

The Stars extended their unbeaten streak against Chicago to eight games (7-0-1), dating to April 2002.

Dallas also closed to three points behind first-place San Jose in the Pacific Division. The Stars host the Sharks on Tuesday.

``They played a helluva game and didn't give us anything,'' Chicago coach Brian Sutter said. ``There were no second or third chances.''

Blackhawks rookie goalie Adam Munro was shaky in his fourth career start. He had 27 saves, but allowed two goals from sharp angles and gave up a big rebound to set up another Dallas score.

``I didn't have a good game tonight,'' Munro said. ``The first and third were two really bad goals. The bottom line is I have to stop those in a low-scoring league like this.''

Chicago has just one win in its last nine games overall (1-5-2-1).

Guerin opened the scoring 1:34 into the first period on a fluke goal. He fired the puck into the crease from below the goal line in the left corner, it struck Munro's skate and deflected into the net.

Bure made it 2-0 at 6:06 of the second when he drove up the slot and converted a rebound of Mike Modano's shot from the right boards. Munro made a pad save on Modano's attempt, but kicked the puck directly to Bure.

The goal was Bure's first with Dallas since being acquired from Florida on Tuesday.

Turgeon made it 3-0 at 2:36 of the third with another soft goal against Munro. He fired the puck from deep on the left board and it slipped between Munro's pads.

Lehtinen's goal at 8:19 stretch Dallas' lead to 4-0. He beat Munro with a wrist shot from the left circle after a turnover in the Chicago zone.
