Season Series: This is the second and final meeting between the teams this season. On Jan. 12, Ian Laperriere had a Gordie Howe Hat Trick, and Simon Gagne and Darroll Powe had a goal and an assist each in a 6-3 Flyers win in Philadelphia. Steve Ott scored twice for the Stars.
Big Story: Both teams have unsettled goaltending situations. Without injured starter Michael Leighton, Brian Boucher will make his first start since December. Meanwhile, the Stars are alternating between Marty Turco and Kari Lehtonen in hope one of them can get hot and help make up some ground in the Western Conference playoff race.
Flyers: Brian Boucher is just 4-12-2 with a 2.77 goals-against average, hasn't started a game since Dec. 21 and has played just four games since then, but he's all the Flyers have while Leighton is out with a sprained ankle suffered in Tuesday's loss in Nashville. He stopped 24 of 25 shots in relief of Leighton, but allowed Martin Erat's shootout goal in the Flyers' 4-3 loss.
"I don't have a lot of evidence to go on as far as playing-wise in the last three months, but I've played in a couple games here since the break in some relief roles, and I feel good about myself," Boucher told the team's Web site. "I anticipate doing a good job with our team continuing to push forward."
Stars: There's no explanation for why some players are misses in one place and hits in another. For Dallas' Brandon Segal, the Kings' loss is their gain.
The Stars claimed Segal on waivers from the Kings on Feb. 11, and in seven games he has 5 goals and 8 points, including a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 8-2 win against the Sharks. He had 2 points in 25 games with the Kings before being waived.
Dallas coach Marc Crawford has Segal at right wing on a line with Mike Ribeiro and Brenden Morrow, and that looks like a trio that could stay together for a while.
Who's Hot: Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger has 2 goals and 9 points in his last 10 games. His goal Tuesday against Nashville was his 10th of the season, giving him double-figures in goals for five straight seasons. It also was his 50th point, the most he's had since 2006-07.
Morrow, the Stars' captain, has 3 goals and 5 points in his last three games. He had a pair of goals and 2 assists Tuesday against San Jose. It was his first multi-goal game since Oct. 14.
Injury Report: Flyers goalie Michael Leighton is listed as day-to-day with a sprained left ankle, but he'll miss at least a week, and possibly much more.
The Stars will be without center Mike Modano for at least two weeks while he recovers from an appendectomy.
Stat Pack: The eight goals the Stars scored against the Sharks Tuesday was the most they've scored in a game since they had eight against the Maple Leafs Dec. 23, 2008.
Puck Drop: With the Flyers looking for a backup goalie, they called up Jeremy Duchesne from AHL Adirondack. He'll wear an NHL jersey for the first time Thursday in Dallas.
Duchesne's father, Gaetan Duchesne, spent four seasons with the Minnesota North Stars in their final four seasons in the Twin Cities before the franchise moved to Dallas.
