Stars visit Flames seeking Alberta sweep
Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames

STARS (9-7-2) at FLAMES (6-9-3)

TV: FS-SW, SNET-CGY

Last 10: Dallas 6-2-2; Calgary 2-7-1

Season series: This is the second of three meetings between the Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames. The Stars cruised past the Flames in a 5-1 victory on Oct. 24 at American Airlines Center, a game in which rookie Alex Chiasson had two goals and an assist.

Big story: The Stars play their second game in as many nights on a three-game road trip that began with a 3-0 victory against the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place on Wednesday. Calgary will play the second of a three-game homestand. The Flames dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night.

Team Scope:

Stars: It wasn't pretty, but Dallas managed to open up its trip by picking up two points in Edmonton. Rich Peverley scored midway through the second period before Tyler Seguin and Antoine Roussel added empty-net goals late in third to secure the win. Kari Lehtonen stopped all 22 shots he faced for the shutout.

"Obviously I've seen some great goaltenders with Timmy [Thomas] in Boston and followed up with Tuukks [Tuukka Rask] last year, and he's right up there, if not even better with his consistency," Seguin said of Lehtonen. "Every night, he's making huge saves for us. We rely a lot on him, but we've got to take some pressure off him."

Flames: Calgary's winless streak reached four games (0-3-1) with the overtime loss to San Jose on Tuesday. The Flames rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the third period on goals from Kris Russell and Mike Cammalleri, but Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart beat Reto Berra 1:13 into overtime to hand Calgary another loss.

Rather than dwell on another defeat, the Flames immediately began preparing for the Stars.

"That's the beauty of the NHL, 82-game schedule," Flames coach Bob Hartley said Wednesday. "You can't sleep on good performances or bad performances too long. We have a new partner the next day and tomorrow we have Dallas, a team that is playing very well. There's no easy opponent in this conference."

Who's hot: With his performance Wednesday, Lehtonen lowered his goals-against average to 2.01 and raised his save percentage to .932. Seguin has scored in back-to-back games. … Cammalleri has five goals in as many games for Calgary.

Injury report: Stars forward Ray Whitney (lower body) is on injured reserve. … Flames captain Mark Giordano (broken ankle) is on injured reserve. Left wing Curtis Glencross (sprained MCL) is out indefinitely.
