PHOENIX (AP) -- Sean Burke continues to surprise his teammates -- and earn their gratitude.

Burke offset Phoenix's struggling offense with 39 saves, and the Coyotes snapped an eight-game winless streak against the Dallas Stars with a 2-1 win Wednesday night.

"He was unbelievable," Shane Doan said. "The guy is a world-class goalie, and we owe him a lot for that one."

Coach Bob Francis called his skaters lethargic and attributed the win to Burke.

"He was a wall back there," Francis said.

Daymond Langkow had a goal and an assist, and Doan also scored for the Coyotes, who last beat the Stars on Feb. 26, 2002, in Phoenix. Ladislav Nagy assisted on each goal, giving the Coyotes their fourth win in seven games (4-1-2) as they reached .500 for the first time since Nov. 21.

Burke tied his season high for saves in his 200th game with Phoenix. He made 39 in a 6-4 win over Los Angeles on Nov. 27, but this time he had to be sharper.

"That team there was hungry, and obviously they have been struggling and trying to do everything they can to turn things around," Burke said.

He had 34 saves before rookie Trevor Daley spoiled his shutout bid with a power-play goal 8:20 into the third period.

It wasn't enough for the frustrated Stars, whose losing streak reached five games amid speculation that coach Dave Tippett's job is in jeopardy.

"We are a very desperate team, and we will continue to be desperate until we get the wins," Tippett said.

Langkow lifted the Coyotes to a 2-0 lead at 4:29 of the third. Nagy got the puck in the neutral zone from Radoslav Suchy and carried it into the Stars' end before passing across to Langkow, who tapped a shot into the net on Marty Turco's stick side.

"We got to kind of take a look at how we played and really make some adjustments," Langkow said. "We can't be allowing 40 shots every night and expect to win. As good as our goalies are, it's not fair to them."

Turco had 16 saves for the Stars, who took 16 shots in the first period but had nothing to show for it against Burke.

Phoenix scored on its fifth shot 8:27 in when Langkow, skating hard down the left wing, drew Turco to his side and sent a crossing pass to Doan. His one-timer from the bottom of the circle beat Turco's dive back.

The pace slowed in the second, but Burke had to make some of his best saves to hold the lead, stopping two shots each by Mike Modano, Bill Guerin, Stu Barnes and Jeff MacMillan.

"Something's got to happen," Guerin said. "I mean, we've scored two goals in four games on the road. We've got to find it somewhere. We had a great effort, played well enough to win."

Dallas defenseman John Erskine saved the Stars from going two goals down midway through the period when he blocked Landon Wilson's shot at an open net with Turco lunging to get back from the boards.
