TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Mike Modano is feeling a lot better about himself.

Modano scored his first goal in 12 games and Marty Turco made 26 saves to help the Dallas Stars beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 Saturday night.

"It's been awhile," said Modano, who also had an assist. "There's certainly some doubt in your game and your ability. I think you just get to a point ... you quit feeling sorry for yourself. It's a new day. You start over."

Brenden Morrow also scored for Dallas, 4-12-2 on the road. In 18 road games, the Stars have scored 21 goals.

Turco has allowed two goals or fewer in 12 of his last 14 games and posted a mark of 7-6-1.

Martin St. Louis had the Tampa Bay goal.

Lightning coach John Tortorella was disappointed in how his team played following a 5-4 overtime win Thursday at Philadelphia.

"It's a kick in the teeth," Tortorella said. "You have to try and gain momentum. You can't take one step forward and two steps backward."

The Lightning are 3-9-2 in their past 14 games. Dallas' offense has struggled recently away from home. The Stars have scored three times in their previous six road games, including a 1-0 loss at Florida on Friday.

Modano gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at 13:53 of the first. He redirected Philippe Boucher's shot past goalie Nikolai Khabibulin.

Boucher, back in the lineup after missing nine games because of a fractured left orbital bone, had two assists.

The Lightning tied it 1-1 on St. Louis' short-handed goal with 5:49 left in the second. He picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, got around defenseman Sergei Zubov by faking a shot and then scored after making a nifty move on Turco.

"It means nothing, really," St. Louis said. "It makes the game 2-1."

Dallas responded just 21 seconds later on Morrow's rebound goal. It was the second power-play goal for Dallas in 41 chances.

"The next power-play unit jumped on and we were looking to grab momentum back," Stars coach Dave Tippett said. "Not only did they grab the momentum back, they got the goal back. To me, that's the difference in the game."

The Lightning had a two-man advantage for 1:47 late in the second, but Turco made five saves.

He stopped an in-close chance by Dave Andreychuk. Tampa Bay failed to get a shot during a 63-second, two-man advantage midway through the third.

"It's a tough situation," Turco said. "The last one, it was a pivotal point in the game. The game was on the line essentially and our workers prevailed."

The Lightning finished 0-for-7 on the power play.

"This is one of those games where our power play could have won us the game," Andreychuk said. "We have to capitalize on that to win games."
